The Detective is the leader of the Good Team. It is one of the fourteen roles that appear in Anonymous Mode and Regular Mode.
The Detective may receive clues once per night showing information about the Team affiliations of other players. Clues will either give two names where at least one of those players is on the Good Team or three names where at least one of those players is on the Evil Team. Sometimes, no clues will appear.
Detective's goal is to use the clues they're given to find and capture the Evil Team.
Tips and Tricks
- If you get an Evil clue, you usually want to reveal immediately. If you get a Good clue, you can stay silent. Don't try and 'play safe' - you synergize well with almost every Good team role in the game, so use this to your advantage early. Your Evil clues narrow down suspects for Psychic; Spy can bug you in case you are Murderer's target; Medic can protect you, and Savior can revive you. Faking Detective is also somewhat difficult for Evil team.
- Make sure the clues do not get censored in the journal so others can read them.
- For example, replace the word "one" with "won" or "1one" so it does not censor.
- Detectives should separate names if they may be censored. (e.g. write "Zahrah" as "Zara" or "Zah rah", "Minji" as "Min ji", etc.)
- Another good option is to replace tagged players' names with their numbers on the player list. (e.g. write "#7" instead of, supposed Jean-Claude in this case.); note that this method may lead to confusion as some players may not understand what you are trying to say.
- It is also helpful to know which names do not get tagged. You can test this with the “Preview Filtering” mechanic; As some names like Chlorine or Elizabeth don’t get tagged.
- Detective is a solid claim as there is a guaranteed Detective in every round.
- If a character appears in the clues twice or more, it is safe to assume that they are on the respective team of the clues they appeared.
- Remaining silent can put Detectives at risk; while it makes it more difficult for the Murderer or Assassin to identify the player's role, it makes the player less trustworthy.
- Make sure you say "Either ____ or ____ is evil". You can use this technique in the public conversation. It is likely that more people would point out who is evil, which could get an evil role kicked out. However, don't do this too early in game as people might instantly figure out you're the Detective. You could add this with "I feel like it might be [Player name A] or [Player name B]" at the beginning of your sentence and then "But I could be wrong" or "But I don't know for sure" at the end of your sentence to make it less suspicious.
- Do not ask if someone is evil even if the clues say so; not only can this indirectly reveal the player's role or draw suspicion, but it is also ineffective as the most likely answer would be "no".
