Journals are a gameplay feature of Flicker. Journals allow a player to track and store information at their discretion.
Uses
The journal button is present in the lower left corner of the screen. Upon clicking it, the player will receive the journal template.
The template consists of the player's name, a text entry field, a close button, and a censorship checking button. The latter is used to determine if Roblox's chat filter will censor their entered text. Clicking this button will display the checked journal, and the button will become the edit journal button. Clicking the edit journal button will revert the journal to editing mode. If any changes are made when the player exits the text entry field, a prompt will notify the player that their journal has been saved.
A player's journal remains exclusive to them during live gameplay, unlike notes. When a player dies with a written journal entry, the journal will be displayed to all players, alive or dead. If there was no written entry, a prompt will inform all players that a journal was not found.
Players are moved to the Graveyard upon being killed/voted. If a ghost wrote a journal entry, that journal entry may be retrieved at any point by all players.
Tips and Tricks
- Members of the Evil Team, such as the Scout or the Dark Psychic, should lie in their journal to help their teammates. Change information to frame a player on the Good Team.
- Consider documenting your role in your journal. That way, a Savior - if present - can confidently save you. Beware, though: anyone can lie about their role in their journal.
Trivia
- The Detective, Psychic, Spy, Dark Psychic, and Scout all receive prompts when using their abilities. The information they receive can be copied and pasted into their journal with an "Add to Journal" button.
- According to developer joritochip, the journal will be revised to help get around the Roblox text filter. joritochip intends to achieve this by providing an "Add to journal" function (that is not considered as user text) as well as a name dropdown feature for inserting character names and their alignment.
- The maximum length of a journal is 1,024 characters.
- Received/opened journals can be stacked on screen.
- On PC devices, all displayed journals can be relocated around the screen by clicking and dragging the journal.
- Journals will overlap on the Z index in chronological order received.
- Text entries in journals will scroll if they are too long to display.
- There are various accompanying sound effects of paper rustling heard when utilizing journals.
- Ghost players are unable to write journal entries, but they may view other journal entries.
