Kai is a non-binary character who appears in Anonymous Mode. They can be played when selecting Non-Binary or Random.

Appearance

Kai wears a Venta black denim jacket, with pockets with an embroidered alien print on the chest, over a black bra. Located on the back of the denim jacket is a picture of a black UFO flying over black trees above the text "I WANT TO LEAVE" in white. On the sides of the jacket are white outlines of the planets, the Sun, and the stars scattered around it.

They also wear a black choker with a silver charm, high-waisted gray denim shorts, a black jacket tied around their waist with a knot at the front, and black ankle-length boots. They have short, spiked black hair with a widow's peak that contains magenta and cyan highlights. They have a warm ivory complexion and the "Joyful Smile" face.

Before their revamp, their bra was gray, their jacket was made of felt, and their pockets were larger.

• Kai is one of the ten characters who were originally not going to end up in the game, due to them not placing high enough when the Flicker players got to decide which characters would end up in the game but ended up being saved by a developer. The others are Ally, Annie, Ash, Jackson, John, Lukey, Mary, Sabrina, and Thomas.
• Kai is one of the characters that got a revamp on April 2nd, 2020.
• The name Kai (/ˈkaj/) means "Sea" in Hawaiian.
  • Kai is a unisex name; this name can be given to boys, girls, and anybody in between.
• Kai can be seen on a semi-old thumbnail for the game as the Psychic, along with Jojo as the Investigator, Amani and Minji as Twins, Alex as the Murderer, and Indah as the Medic.

• Kai is 1 out of 3 characters that were added on March 1st, 2020 and were part of the LGBTQ+ category with the others being John and Vinny.

• croire revealed on the JJ Studios Discord server that Kai is pansexual.
  • Kai and Eduardo are the only characters to identify as pansexual, and they can both be found in the non-binary category.
  • Kai was the first ever character to be revealed to be part of the LGBTQ+ category.
  • Pansexuality is identified as by those who can usually be sexually and romantically attracted to anyone, regardless of their gender identity/orientation. Many who identify as pansexual also often refer to themselves as gender-blind, asserting that gender and sex are not determining factors in their romantic or sexual attraction to others.
• Kai is one of the five characters whose revamp only involved their clothing to change. The others who have this trait are Annie, Charlie, Jackson, and Lukey.
• Kai is one of the twelve characters whose fan-art appears on the bookshelf near the solitary room and bedroom in the House map, with the others being Lara, Bailey, Haneen, Vinny, Mary, Jamila, Elizabeth, Alex, Charlie, Jean-Claude, and Colleen. They can be seen on two photos with one of them showing their holding the pride flag in front of a giant pride flag with the words "pride month" and "Kai" written on the photo, and with the second one showing their from portrait view (shoulders and up) winking at the camera.
• Kai goes by "they/them" pronouns, along with Quinn and Lukey. This fact was stated on JJ Studios official community Discord server in the #🤫leaks channel by the main builder of the game, croire herself.
• Kai is the only March 1st, 2020 character to be added to the new Non-Binary sort.
• Kai and Lukey are confirmed to be best friends.
• It has been revealed that Kai identifies as non-binary, and uses they/them pronouns.
  • Those who identify as non-binary feel as if they do not fit on the binary genders of male or female. Non-binary can be used as an umbrella term for anyone who is not entirely male or entirely female, for people who are not male nor female, or as a term by itself.
• Kai's character type has been changed twice while in-game, specifically from Female—to LGBTQ+—then to Non-Binary. They share this trait with Lukey, except Lukey was originally male.
