The Spy is a Good Team role. It is one of the fourteen roles that appear in Anonymous Mode and Regular Mode.

The Spy can "bug" someone, or spy on them, once per night. Once the Spy has visited someone, they can see if any other player has visited that same player.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you catch the Murderer, ALWAYS reveal. Murderer is the biggest threat to Good team. The longer you wait, the more Good team members will die.
  • Bug someone who you think the Murderer/Assassin would kill. This way, you can easily figure out who the Murderer/Assassin is.
    • For example, if someone is asking for the Murderer to kill them, bug them. The Murderer will likely kill who is asking to be killed.
    • Try bugging the person who is the main attention within the group or the person who actively try to eliminate Evil Team members, as roles with killing abilities are more likely to aim for them.
    • This is especially potent if someone reveals their role around the early part of the game. Twins are prone to share their role.
  • If you are unsure on who to bug, try bugging the person who's on top of the list, since most inexperienced Murderers kill the first name they see.
  • If two or more players visit someone, then all of their names will be listed in the visited list (i.e. Jojo gave Amani a muffin but Cody witched Amani that round. You will be told that both Jojo and Cody have visited Amani.).
  • When you discover someone who visited the person you bugged, try asking for the former's role. If they claim anything but Medic or Muffin Man, they must be Evil. This is because Survivor, Twin, Savior, Clown or Detective cannot visit and Psychic is mutually exclusive with yourself. Do note Muffin Man is a self-confirmable role.
  • If you are certain someone has a rather useless role, you can ask them to lie about their role and say they're Psychic or another important role out loud as bait. That will be your chance to bug them, and since they have higher chances of dying, you may catch the Murderer or Assassin using this trick.
  • If you have bugged someone and they were visited but not killed by someone, they must be either a Muffin Man, Medic, Dark Psychic, Scout or Witch. (The Psychic and Spy cannot be in the same game. If someone was revived, you can exclude the Medic from the list. If the Twins have revealed themselves, you can also exclude Muffin Man from the list.) Thus, if they claim to be anything other than the Muffin Man or Medic, they must be evil. Continue to use the process of elimination to determine the roles that visit (i.e. You are the Spy, and Amani visited Jo last night. You ask Amani what role she has, and she claims to be Survivor. Therefore, she might be evil and lying just to protect herself.).
  • If you've bugged someone who may likely be connected with the Evil Team (e.g., if you've bugged Colleen who died from the Murderer/Jordan, and showing Jordan's name that they visited Colleen), try to notify others by sending notes or writing in your journal, saying someone is suspicious and finding a reason that could also work. Remember to be cautious, because notes have a 20% to drop. You could reveal yourself as a last resort, but make sure that the Murderer/Assassin is already gone, the Clown has used their kill, and/or that role is the last evil role left to win the game. While the Spy is not completely dangerous compared to the Psychic, it is still a risk on Evil Team's side of being exposed. With this, revealing yourself does not always work, as while this can get you on possible good terms with the Medic or Savior for them to help you (if they're alive or still in the game), some players will think you are the Scout trying to impersonate the Spy. For any experienced players on the Evil Team, they may try to manipulate everyone into believing you are the Scout to vote you out.
    • This also may happen if the Scout's journal is revealed (which will most likely have information written for who they bugged), which may confuse players
  • If someone claims to be an important role, bug them and if they don't get visited, then discuss with the group about it.

Trivia

  • There is only a 3.33% chance of getting the Spy role without boosts from scrolls.
  • The Spy is the Good Team counterpart of Scout.
  • When the Spy bugs someone who wasn't visited by anyone, the information used to be "[Character] was visited by nobody." This was then changed to say "[Character] was visited by." This was changed again to say "Nobody used an ability on [Character].".
  • In Regular Mode and Anonymous Mode, there cannot be a Spy and a Psychic within the same round.
  • Inexperienced players may think that the Spy is on the Evil Team, as spies are typically referred to be malicious.
  • The most visits you are able to get in a result is 6, including the kill from the Clown.
  • Both the Spy and Psychic have yellow text in their introductions, representing their connection and "Sleuth" roles.
